Forty Years of Love and Quilting

Certain life events are of such import that they’re the cause for celebration and remembrance. We feel the need to mark these passages of time with something concrete, something of special significance, something full of meaning and stories. So what else is a quilter to do but make a quilt?

Take a walk down memory lane while Donna recalls stories and memories told through her Anniversary Sampler Quilt and other quilts, all while encouraging you to put memories into special quilts of your own.

Patchwork Palette

Patchwork_PalaceDo you love the thought of using lots and lots of those beautiful prints you’ve been collecting in glorious multi-fabric quilts?  Does the idea of taming and making sense of all those prints seem overwhelming?  After a review of some basic principles about combining prints, Donna will share with you her three fabric recipes that make it a simple as pie to plan beautiful fabric palettes to sew into glorious quilts. These are nothing like your traditional scrap quilts.  Donna will bring lots of quilts to illustrate her concepts.

Fearless Fabric

Are you one of the many quilters absolutely paralyzed with uncertainty when it comes to picking fabrics for quilts?  Do you stick to kits so you don’t have to make choices or plan your own fabrics?  In this jam-packed lecture, Donna will take the mystery out of picking fabrics for your next project.  She will review how to choose fabrics for quilts based on three main concepts: hue, value, and variety of scale of print.  Each concept will be covered in great detail.  She will also present simple strategies, approaches, and recipes for getting you started on your own unique masterpieces.  The lecture includes a trunk show.

What in the World is On-Point Patchwork?

On-point-PatchworkOn-point patchwork is something we haven’t done much of since we stopped making templates for all our piecing. It is NOT about on-point quilt sets but rather about pieced units set on point inside the boundaries of blocks and borders. I’ll walk you through the how’s and why’s of the problems we encounter with on-point patchwork and the simple math-free solution that now allows us to make all kinds of interesting blocks that our grandmothers made with templates. This is an information- and quilt-packed lecture—the ideas will open up all kinds of design possibilities for today’s quilter.

Flip Your Way to Fabulous Quilts

Flip_Your_Way_to_Fabulous_Quilts-2Learn all about the myriad shapes that can be made with this simple skill. Donna will explain the original basic concept, the expanded applications, and how to do it. Most quilters are familiar with the basic concept of folded corners, where a smaller square is sewn onto a larger corner and folded to form a triangle on the corner. Using squares, rectangles and triangles, Donna expands on this idea to create all kinds of striped squares, rectangles and triangles, adding new shapes and fun to quilt blocks. Learn to look for ways to spice up traditional blocks with striped pieces. Donna will show you lots of quilts using these exciting new design ideas. Trunk show.
